YUKKA

Yukka is a band from Asunción, Paraguay, that has set out to break boundaries within the local music scene since its inception. The project began with Matías Espínola (vocals) and Ariel Soler (drums), two artists with a vast background as producers and DJs in both the local and regional nightlife circuit. Later, they were joined by musicians like Sebastián Cartes (synthesizers and FX), Chino Corvalán, José Gwynn, Tam Bakaleiko, and Rodrigo Quintas, forming a collaborative and ever-evolving musical proposal.

In 2021, they released their debut album Alta Traición, which quickly established them as one of the most promising acts in the country. With a mix of soul, dance, funk pop, electronic, and groove, the album garnered attention from the public and press alike for its fresh sound and carefully crafted aesthetic. This was further complemented by a special vinyl edition, reinforcing their commitment to both musical and visual quality.

The following year, in 2022, Yukka released the single Sin tu amor, a track that expands their sonic universe with psychedelic touches, Latin rhythms, and funk influences, further emphasizing their commitment to constant evolution.

The band’s name, “Yukka,” comes from a word with multiple meanings. In Guaraní, it refers to the act of “killing,” but it also denotes a tall plant that grows in tropical countries, as well as the well-known local manioc. In some Central American countries, it’s used colloquially to describe something that is hard to accomplish. This multiplicity of meanings perfectly aligns with the band’s philosophy, as their songs explore various emotional and aesthetic shades without sticking to one specific formula.

Although the band is currently on a break from releasing new material, Yukka embodies an artistic vision that prioritizes creative freedom and genre-blending. The band maintains an open approach, refusing to be confined by rigid labels, allowing themselves to evolve and explore new directions at every stage. This ability to transform is what defines their essence.
